Remember all that flak over the Dixie Chicks and their critique of resident bush ?  The resounding rebuke was over the fact that they had launched their criticisms on foreign soil, telling a London audience that they were ashamed that bush was from Texas.  Today that same George Bush used an address before the Knesset celebrating Israel's 60th anniversary to launch a political attack and equate Sen. Obama with Nazi appeasers.  The irony is it was Bush's grandfather Prescott Bush who was the Nazi appeaser and financier as was exposed by Marine Gen. Smedley Butler.  Further irony is that members of bush's own cabinet, namely Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condi Rice, have echoed Obama's ideas on engaging the Iranian government for negotiations.
January 20, 2009 can    not   come   soon   enough.

This is Amanda's amazing email

Thursday, May 15. 2008

Please pass this on to anyone and everyone you know who is a concerned citizen and is willing and able to email/write/call/fax Congress.  There is a website called "Right to Redress, I believe, which provides contact information for all of congress, for just this purpose.

Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2008 11:39 AM
Subject: This is Amanda's amazing email--i will try and incorporate it into the flyer

I am writing you because Lt. Eric Norman Shine of the US Merchant Marines needs our help. Lt. Shine is a whistleblower and hero being unjustly prosecuted by the US Coast Guard and Homeland Security for standing up for whats right. He is being harassed for whistle blowing activity against Homeland Security excesses and contracting corruption by a network of Bush insiders that includes Tony Snow, Ted Olson, and reportedly the Administrative Law Judge assigned to his October 23, 2007 hearing.

Lt. Shine has lost all he ever had in this battle - his life, his home, his job and even his father - but Lt. Shine continues to fight because he hasn't lost his voice. Lt. Shine knows this isnt about him, its about every single citizen of this country, especially our men and women in uniform, and their rights and freedoms. We are all entitled to due process in this country, but for some reason Lt. Shine has not been given this right. The US Coast Guard is prosecuting Lt. Shine on the grounds he is incompenent and depressed, and for this reseon Lt. Shine has had to be his own legal representation in this case.

I just recently learned of Lt. Shine's situtation this week, and due to its complexity have attached an article that can better brief on his situation than I. I may only be 21, but I'd like to think I know right from wrong, and what our government is doing to Lt. Shine is wrong! He needs help from the public and the people with the resources to get him a fair trial. Lt. Shine, for years now, has been requesting the help of several Senators and other political figures in Washington and has recieved nothing. It is time that someone steps up to help Lt. Shine and I hope it will be soon, as Lt. Shine is scheduled to appear for trial in Long Beach, CA on May, 20, 2008. Eric Shine needs legal counsel and needs our support.

This is where I ask that if you or anyone you know can help Lt. Shine in any way it would be greatly appreciated. Even if it is just getting the word out about Lt. Shine's story. This case will set precedent for cases to come and we cannot let our goverment get away with such unjust and unconstitutional actions, not when they are in place to proctect the people, not defame and slander their service to this country.

Lt. Shine can be reached at  or through his website: http://www.martiallaw911.com/.

I thank you in advance for any help you can provide, even if it is just distributing this email.

Sincerely,
Amanda Withers

P.S. Lt. Shine's hearing is public and he would like anyone interested in his sitution to come watch in support.

THE HEARING is on May 20, 2008 at 9:30 AM in the:

Laura Bush has told us that no one suffers more than the first couple do over the Iraq War.  Today we learned just how deep Bush's great sacrifice is during this time of war and occupation.  He has given up golf for the sake of our brave troops and their families.  I feel a little silly criticizing him all these years knowing he has paid such a steep price for our country.  God bless george bush.

"A world so complex needs a good explanation"

Tuesday, May 13 2008

Tuesday, May 13. 2008

It's Tuesdays with Morrie old man McCain.   Apparently the surest way to become an angry bitter old man is to start out life as an angry bitter young man.
John Sidney McCain III is the presumptive nominee of the "Change you Deserve" party.
Does America really deserve four more years of failed war, failed economy, failed tax policy, failed energy policy, failed diplomoacy, failing infrastructure, failing schools, and a loss of faith in the American way of life?

at 3:30 Cliff Schecter joins us for this week's update on The Real McCain: Why Conservatives Don't Trust Him and Why Independents Shouldn't.  Each week Cliff will help us explore another aspect of Sen. McCain's history and inspire us to help impact the Arizona senator's future in politics.   His blog is here.

On Friday a military judge decided to disqualify Brig. Gen. Thomas W. Hartmann from any further role in the Guantanamo war crimes case because of obvious political concerns in his judgment deciding which cases will be tried.  I will also share an interview I did with atty Candace Gorman who filed suit last week alleging that the US government was tampering with attorneys defending Gitmo inmates.  We will re-visit Olbermann's Nexus of Politics and Terror for some insight into the administrations war on terror politics.
The WoT has been a last bastion of republican campaigning and like every other issue facing voters this fall it seems to slipping away from the GOP.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO YOU ALL.

Friday, May 9. 2008

as forwarded to me by my son's mom

If you send this to just one person, it should make it all the way around the world by Mother's Day.
This is for the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Oscar Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, 'It's okay honey, Mommy's here.'
Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end soothing crying babies who can't be comforted.
This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.
For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew Halloween costumes. And all the mothers who DON'T.
This for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes.
This is for the mothers whose priceless art collections are hanging on their refrigerator doors.
And for all the mothers who froze their buns on metal bleachers at football or soccer games instead of watching from the warmth of their cars.
And that when their kids asked, 'Did you see me, Mom?' they could say, 'Of course, I wouldn't have missed it for the world,' and mean it.
This is for all the mothers who yell at their kids in the grocery store and swat them in despair when they stomp their feet and scream for ice cream before dinner. And for all the mothers who count to ten instead, but realize how child abuse happens.
This is for all the mothers who go hungry, so their children can eat.
For all the mothers who read 'Goodnight, Moon' or 'Three Little Pigs' twice a night for a year. And then read it again. 'Just one more time.'
This is for all the mothers who taught their children to tie their shoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.
This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook and their daughters to sink a jump shot.
This is for every mother whose head turns automatically when a little voice calls 'Mom?' in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are at home -- or even away at college ~or have their own families.
This is for all the mothers who sent their kids to school with stomach aches, assuring them they'd be just FINE once they got there, only to get calls from the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up. Right away.
This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who can't find the words to reach them.
For all the mothers who bite their lips until they bleed when their 14 year olds dye their hair green.
For all the mothers of the victims of recent school shootings, and the mothers of those who did the shooting.
For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child who just came home from school, safely.
This is for all the mothers who taught their children to be peaceful, and now pray they come home safely from a war.
What makes a good Mother anyway? Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips?
The ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a shirt, all at the same time?
Or is it in her heart?
Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son or daughter disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time?
The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2 A.M. to put your hand on the back of a sleeping baby?
The panic, years later, that comes again at 2 A.M. when you just want to hear their key in the door and know they are safe again in your home?
Or the need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you hear news of a fire, a car accident, a child dying?
The emotions of motherhood are universal and so our thoughts are for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation... And mature mothers learning to let go.
For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers.
Single mothers and married mothers.
Mothers with money, mothers without.
This is for you all. For all of us...
Hang in there. In the end we can only do the best we can. Tell them every day that we love them. And pray and never stop being a mom..
Please pass along to all the Moms in your life.
'Home is what catches you when you fall - and we all can fall.'
Please pass this to a wonderful mother or mother figure you know.
(I just did!)

George McGovern, Wes Clark and Diane Feinstein have each made statements today that seem to point to what almost all of us recognize at this time.  This race is over for the Clinton's.  When will the Clinton campaign recognize this and move on ?  Who should Obama be considering for a running mate ?

Last Friday John McCain was speaking at a town hall meeting touting his soon to be announced energy policy.  He claimed his new policy would make us less dependent on middle eastern oil and then said "that will prevent us from  having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the middle east"  Did old man Mccain mispeak yet again ?   Or did he unknowingly admit what most of us have known for some time  -  our troops are fighting and dying in Iraq for oil.
